The Bone Zone

Saturday, Sep. 19, 2015 – Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016

Guests can enter the 1500-foot carnival-themed interactive exhibit The Bone Zone and learn the positive effect of nutrition and exercise on skeletal health.

The Bone Zone features nine informative, interactive displays that engage children and adults to help them develop lifelong, healthy habits.  The displays feature interactive games, hands-on activities, entertaining videos, and information about bone health, diet, and exercise.

About the Exhibition

Displays include:

  • Step into the Carnival of Healthy Choices with the skeletal guide, the "Bone Barker," who describes the amazing sights and experiences that await. His sideshows, “Your Bones Are Alive,” and the “Incredible Bone Crusher,” challenge guests to test their strength against healthy bones that receive plenty of exercise and calcium against weak bones affected by osteoporosis.
  • Bone Up On Calcium illustrates that humans need the calcium equivalent of three cups of milk per day.
  • The Amazing Bone Builder is a video sideshow that explains how our bodies form new bones.
  • What’s On The Inside Counts uses a simulated X-ray machine to visualize that you can’t tell how strong your bones are just by looking.
  • Femur Frenzy is a computer game of smarts and brute force, where guests pick up the bone mallet and whack the best food or activity choice to build a complete skeleton.
  • The Mysterious Madame Ulna predicts the future of your bones from the activity choices you make today.
  • The Astounding Gravity-Defying Bone Zone is a video sideshow featuring a performer whose leg changes size.  It answers the question of how large a leg bone made of pine, or concrete, or glass, would need to be in order to match the strength of human bones.
  • The Hip Joint experience shakes important bones with useful weight-bearing exercises and dancing.
  • Picture Your Future has visitors look into the funhouse mirror to get a glimpse of their future self.

The Bone Zone, organized by Purdue Agriculture Exhibit Design Center, is sponsored by The Dairy & Nutrition Council of Indiana.
