The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston and Asia Society Texas Center are delighted to host Joseph Emmett, Director of the Vedanta Institute, to discuss the ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta and its connection to a renewed interest in social consciousness in our modern world. The ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta has long addressed how to live in the world with both peace and productivity. Social consciousness is a bedrock theme in its scriptures. This knowledge is now being taken up with renewed interest by leaders across the globe.

Emmett will discuss this new role for the ancient Vedanta and offer some of insights. A Q&A with the speaker will follow the lecture.

About the Lecture

About Joseph Emmett

Joseph Emmett has been a student of Swami Parthasarathy since 1996, and is a graduate of the full-time, three-year residential course at Vedanta Academy. He has spent an additional 10 years in India, at the Institute, deepening his knowledge.

As the Director of Vedanta Institute San Francisco, Emmett conducts free weekly classes for the community, in-house programs for businesses and management seminars for leadership groups such as Young President’s Organization. Emmett also guest lectures at universities and schools, most recently for a semester at Pomona College near Los Angeles. He has been the Vedanta faculty at Ananda-In the Himalayas numerous times, and in addition to his own teaching, assists in the organization of Swamiji’s annual lecture tour to the U.S.

Swami Parthasarathy is a 90 year old Self-Realized soul who has spent the last 60 years in selfless service of humanity through his ten books, constant global speaking tours and founding of Vedanta Academy. He is a resource for the corporate world as well, offering his wisdom to hundreds of corporations and groups such as Young President’s Organization, World President’s Organization, the World Economic Forum, the Aspen Institute and numerous top flight business schools, to name a few. Swamiji has pioneered Vedanta-based self-management programs to teach the fundamental techniques underlying productivity, time-management, stress-reduction, leadership and streamlining relationships. Emmett utilizes Swamiji’s groundbreaking interpretation of Vedanta’s ancient wisdom for modern living in all of his programs.
