Mandalas: Entering the Sacred Circle

The group will practice a Tibetan meditation related to mandalas and use reflective process to create their own mandala, whether expressed on paper or visualized. No artistic skill or previous meditative experience necessary.

About the Class

Alejandro Chaoul, PhD, has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1989 and has studied with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, and Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche. He is an Assistant Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Integrative Medicine Program where he teaches Tibetan meditation to cancer patients, their families and caregivers, and researches the effects of Tibetan mind-body practices with cancer patients. He also teaches mind-body techniques to medical students, staff and faculty at UT's medical school, as a way of self-care.

  • $55 ($45 members) if also registered for An Evening of Tea and Meditation Discover Tibetan perspectives on the mandala and learn how it can be a tool for spiritual reflection and self-exploration.

  • Do not park in the lot behind the MFAH building on weekdays before 5 pm. However, the museum does generously allow Jung Center patrons to park in the lot after 5 pm and on the weekend. Paid parking available in front of The Center and on Montrose in front of The Glassell School and the MFAH Administration Building. Parking is always at a premium in the Museum District during business hours, but parallel parking spaces can often be found in front of The Center and on Montrose in front of The Glassell School and the MFAH Administration Building.
