Lawndale Art & Performance Center

Host a Día de los Muertos Satellite Student Exhibition!

Wednesday, Sep. 7, 2016 – Friday, Sep. 23, 2016

For the 29th year running, Lawndale will host a series of exhibitions, artist-led workshops and public programs that engage students, patrons and the public alike with the many facets of the Mexican tradition of Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos. There are various ways that teachers and their students can participate, from simply joining during the festivities, to undertaking a project with a class at your school.

Lawndale encourages teachers to educate their students about important aspects of Mexican culture and their related art practices, and would like to invite you to participate in Satellite Student Exhibitions. Participants will be asked to submit documentation of completed installations for display and recognition on our website.

To honor the participating schools, students, educators and families, Lawndale will host a Family Day Fiesta, with performances by Mixteco Ballet Folklorico and Houston Grand Opera. This fun filled event garners much attention and an audience of over 400 people thanks to the many schools who coordinate the transportation of their students and families to Lawndale.  This year's Family Day Fiesta will be held Saturday, November 5th from noon- 5 pm.

As always, free guided tours are available to all student groups, and can be arranged by filling out a Guided Tour Request.
