Health & Wellness Week is back during spring break at The Health Museum with tips, tricks and hands-on fun to get people moving. Scheduled from March 14 through 19, a myriad of special demonstrations and interactive displays take place daily to promote active fun for healthy living. Guests can hold a real human brain, learn about healthy eating choices, dance with a ballerina, and much more!

Discovery Cart presentations with the lung and heart will be held throughout the day along with a dedicated science show held at 2 pm and 4 pm daily. Science show topics include Exploring DNA, Stress Effects, Exercise and You , and Concussions, complete with a brain dissection and more!

About the Programs & Activities

Monday, March 14

10 am-11 am
Houston Ballet Education and Community Engagement staff will lead a movement workshop for children; participants will explore the parts of the human body and the way it moves though creative exploration activities.

1-3 pm
Dinner is Possible guides you on the importance of reading and understanding food labels to ensure healthy eating.

Tuesday, March 15

11:30 am-12:30 pm
Yoga One Studios to hold kids yoga classes and provide information on the benefits of yoga.

1-3 pm
Houston Public Library's Improv Puppet Theater shows every 30 minutes.

1-4 pm
Shriners Hospital for Children will demonstrate orthopedic care utilizing prosthetics and displays.

1:30-3:30 pm
Houston Food Bank to host interactive presentations on the nutritional value of "junk" foods versus "healthy" foods.

2-4 pm
The Safe Kids Water Safety Team will host an engaging presentation.

Wednesday, March 16

Noon-3 pm
Houston Rockets street team with inflatables and prizes.

1-4 pm
Houston Department of Health and Human Services will provide information on immunizations and WIC programs.

Thursday, March 17

1–3 pm
Angelina Hudson, from NAMI Greater Houston will discuss "Promoting Resiliency in Children Facing Grief" in Learning Center D. A 30 minute presentation and 15 minute Q & A session will follow.

2-4 pm
Yoga One Studios to host mini yoga sessions for families and provide info on the benefits of yoga.

2-5 pm
Authors, Molly Boren Whitney and Gary Whitney, will host a book signing and presentation on their book Thistle Downe: A Tale of Trolls and Fairies. Gary will begin by giving a condensed history of the twig house and how it grew to its current size and his role in illustrating the book. Molly will then speak about she conceived of the story, the characters and setting.

3-5 pm
The Safe Kids Bike/Pedestrian Safety Team will host an engaging presentation.

6-8 pm
UT Brain Night with UT Health Neuroscience Research Center in conjunction with the Dana Alliance's International Brain Awareness Week lets you discover how the brain works through demonstrations ranging from bike-helmet safety, brain reflexes, eye-hand coordination and comparing brains of different species; children are encouraged to build their own nerve cell with pipe-cleaners and have their face painted with a nerve cell or brain, plus the opportunity to handle an actual human brain.

Friday, March 18

Noon-2 pm
Houston Food Bank to host interactive presentations on "power foods".

Noon-3 pm
Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension Program helps you learn how to make healthy food choices count.

2 p.m.-4 p.m.
Houston Public Library Storytime Fitness every 30 minutes using books and DVDs to teach the importance of nutrition.

    Special exhibits may require an additional fee
  • General Admission: $10 per adult; $8 per child (ages 3-12); $8 per senior (ages 65+); Free for members and children under 2 yrs. Free Hours: Free Family Thursdays 2 - 7 pm.
