The Space Suit Art Project, HOPE

The Space Suit Art Project, HOPE

This program unveils a unique partnership approach to conquering the challenges facing both space explorers and children battling cancer. Ian Cion and Nicole Stott discuss their collaboration in creating a custom, full-sized, hand-painted, wearable space suit, as well as how the Space Suit Art Project transformed the lives of patients and families, MD Anderson staff, astronauts, and engineers alike.

In their presentation, Cion and Stott talk about the origin, intent, and future of the Space Suit Art Project, in addition to identifying parallels between the arts in both clinical and space environments. A beautiful representation of what can happen when art, science, and healing collide, the first in Cion’s series of space suits is on display in the Museum’s Beck Building lobby Thursday through Sunday, July 21–24.
